Collective Workshop & Public Performance — May 2026We are looking for 14 participants of diverse ages and backgrounds to take part in a two-day workshop and a public performance connected to Afgang and Art Matter Festival 2026 at Kunsthal Charlottenborg.
The project draws inspiration from Chinese lion and Qirin dance traditions and reimagines them as a living, collective performance in contemporary Copenhagen.
During the workshop, participants will explore movement, procession, costume, rhythm, and group coordination. Together we will activate large sculptural spirit-costumes made from Danish willow and bring mythological figures into the public space.
No professional dance or theatre experience is required. Curiosity, openness, and willingness to collaborate are what matter most.
We welcome:
• Theatre and performance students
• Music and movement practitioners
• Children, young people and adults
• Community members curious about collective art-making
• And anybody who dares become the beast!
The performance will unfold through Nyhavn, Kongens Nytorv, and the canals before entering Kunsthal Charlottenborg, where the costumes become part of the exhibition.
This is a collaborative and intergenerational process. Food and warm drinks will be provided during workshop days.
